Octopus is one of the most progressive and disruptive companies across the financial services and energy sectors. It now has over 750 employees, managing over £14 billion on behalf investors.

The Challenge

1

For over a decade, Octopus had followed the age-old production model, engaging agencies on a project-by-project basis. Each new video took multiple weeks to brief, plan, execute and sign off, leaving the marketing team starved of fresh content.

On the surface, it looked as though Octopus was investing heavily in content, but the traditional process meant had very little to show for it. And despite shrinking budgets, content demand grew.

The Brief

2

Octopus’ ‘group’ structure means that it needs to communicate with a diverse range of audiences across a number of channels.

As a brand, Octopus makes a huge impact on society through the investments it makes, so a lot of its content requirements centred on telling those business stories in a compelling way.

As well as customer-facing assets, Octopus also places a huge importance on culture internally. They were interested in exploring how video content could be used as a tool to launch initiatives within the business, and help attract the best talent through strong employer branding.

Content requirements include:

Case Studies / Animations / Corporate Events / Documentaries / Impact + Sustainability Stories / Market Updates / Photography / Hiring and Culture Films

“We’ve probably used 30+ agencies in the last 25 years, and Stamp is in a different league.”

— Simon Rogerson, Founder & CEO, Octopus Group

Stamp’s Embedded Approach

3

Stamp deployed a specialist filmmaker, backed by wider editing support, to sit in with Octopus’ marketing team.

A new way of working was developed, meaning videos that would have taken weeks if not months to produce, could be briefed and turned around in a matter of days.

What was once an expensive luxury for larger campaigns is now central to the way Octopus delivers information to investors, entrepreneurs, and its own employees.

The Result

4

The introduction of Stamp In-House has revolutionised Octopus’ content strategy. The on-demand video solution has elevated both the quality and consistency of their communications internally and externally.

Octopus now saves tens of thousands of pounds each year, and yet produces more content than it ever could before.

“The content we’ve put together has changed our perception of what’s possible with video.”
